Firefighters were called to free an unconscious occupant of a car that flipped onto its roof in a single-vehicle crash near Algonquin College early Thursday morning.
His head injuries were believed to be life-threatening, police said.
Paramedics reported that the 21-year-old man was in critical condition when he arrived at the Ottawa Trauma Centre after the crash on Deerfield Drive shortly after 3 a.m.
There were four occupants of the car but only one was trapped in the vehicle with firefighters working fast to remove the driver’s side door, pull him from the wreckage and help paramedics care for the patient until he was rushed to the hospital.
A second 21-year-old man was in serious but stable condition with paramedics taking precautions in case of a spinal injury. Two other men, both 24, were assessed on the scene but didn’t need to go to the hospital.
