A gray day is turning candy-coloured as Ottawans don pink.
“I’m wearing pink to take a stand against discrimination and bullying,” Ottawa Fire Services spokeswoman Danielle Cardinal said, who will be tweeting messages throughout the day.
“Our leadership is trying to send a very clear message – like the chief said, I can talk the talk but I’m committing to walking the walk.”
Organizers say the International Day of Pink aims to inspire communities across Canada and the world to unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia and all forms of bullying.

The idea began at a Nova Scotia high school when two straight students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The pair intervened but wanted to do more so they decided to get everyone at school to arrive wearing pink in solidarity.
The result was that a whole school took a stand and began working together to stop bullying in their midst, organizers said.
