Ottawa police say they have received numerous complaints about threatening letters containing death threats that have been sent to the home addresses in Ottawa.

In most cases, the address on the envelope is hand-written and specifically names a resident living at the address. The enveloped is postmarked Calgary, AB.

The letter inside is a photocopy of a handwritten original on 8 ½ x 11 paper. The letter begins with “I know where you live” and makes threats against the lives of the reader and his or her family.

So far, the police have received 27 complaints about the letters, and believe they are being mass-distributed in the Ottawa area, particularly the west end.

Police urge those who receive a copy of the letter to handle it as little as possible, as it may be considered a piece of evidence. Those who receive a copy of the letter are asked to call the west criminal investigations unit at 613-236-1222,
ext. 2666. A police officer will pick up the letter in your home.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
