The case against Eve Stewart, the Ottawa esthetician who was found to have been practising medicine without a license, will not be heard until at least June.
Stewart asked for more time to find a lawyer Thursday during a brief court appearance. A new date is tentatively set for early June.
“I can’t find anyone who wants to take my case,” she said later, outside of the courthouse.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has filed court documents alleging Stewart has continued to administer Botox and offer to perform medical procedures, despite a court order issued in 2014. The College is asking she be found in contempt of court, and be fined as well as given jail time.
On Thursday, a lawyer for the College, Lindsay Cader, asked court to reenter details of the ban against Stewart into the court record.
“We have quite a bit of evidence that she is in breach. I think the (original) order is not sufficient,” she said.
When asked in court whether she intended to argue that she was not in breach of the court order she responded: “I have no idea, your honour.”
Outside of court, however, Stewart told reporters she was only injecting Botox into herself, not others and didn’t know there was anything wrong with that.
An undercover investigation was launched by the College after it received a complaint alleging Stewart was injecting Botox in clients, against the court ban, and offering to perform other procedures, including a nose job.
She was banned from performing any controlled medical acts and administering Botox in 2014, after she performed a nose job on one client and a mini-facelift on another. Health officials became alarmed after the woman who received the nose job went into a walk-in clinic seeking antibiotics, saying the person who did the surgery couldn’t prescribe them because she wasn’t a doctor.
