Ottawa police are investigating a suspicious fire that was set behind two businesses on Somerset Street around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to police, someone piled a bunch of garbage near a doorway behind 375 Somerset Street W., then set the pile on fire.
The building is home to a hair salon as well as the Islamic Care Centre of Ottawa, which offers social services to Ottawa’s Muslim community.
The building did not appear to be seriously damaged.
No further details have been released by police.
The care centre and the central mosque on Northwestern Avenue were struck by vandalism last Wednesday.
Windows were broken at both sites. There were no injuries.
A 27-year-old suspect turned himself in to police after calling them Wednesday to report the vandalism, police said.
The man has been charged with two counts of mischief and one count of assault police.
