April road closures bring May tulips?
Not quite, but the National Capital Commission is shutting down parts of Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Colonel By Drive Friday and Saturday to make the switch from winter skating to the spring show.
Both north and southbound Queen Elizabeth Driveway will be closed between Fifth Avenue and Bank Street from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday so workers can remove change huts and bathrooms from the Rideau Canal,
On Saturday, Colonel By Drive will be closed between Hawthorne and Daly avenues from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Colonel By Drive will also be closed from Hog’s Back Road to Bronson Avenue from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mother Nature is also providing lots of showers to bring those flowers.

For Friday, expect periods of drizzle mixed with rain ending near noon then clouds with 60-per-cent chance of showers and a high of 15 C.
Overnight, the forecast is for clouds, a 60-per-cent chance of showers and low of 5 C.

Saturday – which had been forecast to be warm and sunny – is now mainly cloudy with a 30-per-cent chance of showers in the morning and early afternoon with a high of 9 C and low of 1 C.
Sunday is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 16 C and low of zero.
Monday is forecast to feature sun and a high of 12 C.
A mix of sun and cloud and high of 12 C are on tap for Tuesday, Environment Canada predicts, with the same for Wednesday when there’s also a 40-per-cent chance of showers.
