Victims of the floods in Gatineau could be able to get provincial financial help as soon as Wednesday, according to the province.
Residents are encouraged to bring a damages form and other necessary documents Tuesday to the Gatineau sports centre, 850 de la Gappe Blvd., where they can meet with representatives of the minister of public safety who will assess the costs of the damages.
Those unable to get to the sports centre can send their completed form by mail within three months of the flooding damage to Direction du rétablissement 455, rue du Marais, bureau 100, Québec (Québec) G1M 3A2.
Residents will be able to receive a financial help of up to $3,000.
“Obviously, it will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis,” says ministry spokesperson Alexandra Paré.
An information session was held on Monday at the sports centre where residents received a pamphlet and more information about what goods and furnitures can be admissible in the program. City spokesman Jean Boileau said more than 100 residents attended the session.
Meanwhile, water levels in the Gatineau and Ottawa rivers continue to drop, says Boileau. The city will be collecting used sandbags in the next few days.
Boileau warned the bags could have been contaminated, which is why they will be picked up.
More information will be available on the city’s website.
The city continues to reopen roads including Jacques-Cartier Street East between Gréber and St-Louis streets.
