Orléans girls hailed for helping elderly woman in medical emergency

The Ottawa Paramedic Service has recognized a pair of Orléans girls, aged 12 and 13, for stopping to help a stranger in distress by calling 911 and waiting with the elderly woman until help arrived.

“What these girls did was really amazing,” Marc-Antoine Deschamps, the service’s superintendent of public information, said Thursday of the March incident.

The paramedics who responded to help the elderly woman, who suffered heart arrhythmia then was injured as she fell to the ground, were so impressed by the girl’s actions that they asked that they be recognized, Deschamps said.
