Early risers in the capital region were greeted with an unfamiliar and perhaps scary sight Tuesday.

For the first time in several days, that was sunshine streaming in the bedroom windows, or glaring off the pavement in the morning commute.

After one dramatic thunderstorm, rainfall warnings ended overnight.

The official rainfall reading was 45.4 mm Monday, although some areas were reporting up to 55 mm.

And, while showers continue to be in the forecast off and on right through the weekend, the meteorologists insist the precipitation will be in manageable proportions.

Tuesday was dramatically foggy in some areas, but that’s expected to burn off by mid-morning, replaced with scattered clouds, changing to mainly cloudy conditions.

There’s a 60-per-cent chance of light showers in the afternoon, with a high of 14 C and a UV index of 4 or moderate.

More light showers are expected Tuesday night and the low should be 5 C.

Wednesday should see mixed skies, with morning cloud clearing by the afternoon and a high of 13 C.

The overnight low is expected to plummet to a chilly 0 C.

More sun and cloud is expected Thursday with a a high of 13. Light showers should be back Thursday night when the temperature should hit a low of 5 C.

Friday is expected to bring a 70-per-cent chance of rain, and a high of 11 C.

Saturday is more of the same, but slightly warmer.
