A rainfall warning remained in effect in the capital region Friday, ahead of what looks like a make-or-break weekend for flood-hit areas.

Environment Canada forecasts 30 to 50 mm of rain will fall over the next 24 hours before beginning to peter out sometime Saturday.

The precipitation is expected to remain steady through the day Friday, with moderate winds kicking in this afternoon.

The temperature should remain at about 9 C through the day, then climbing overnight to about 14 C by morning.

Forecasters see the rain slowing down somewhat Saturday morning, with five to 10 mm falling through the day. Saturday’s high should be 17.

By Saturday night, Environment Canada expects to see the wet weather system moving on, calling for “periods of rain” and a low of about 7.

Sunday looks like a 70-per-cent chance of showers and colder, with a high of 7 and a low of 1.

By Monday, it’s expected to be down to a 30-per-cent chance of showers, again with a high of 7 and low of 1.

Finally, by Tuesday, it looks like mixture of sun and cloud, with no appreciable rain forecast. The temperatures are still expected to be chilly.
