Four people are dead after the car they were travelling in burst into flames early Thursday following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 near Joyceville in the Kingston area.
Police say the crash occurred at about 12:40 a.m. in the westbound Trans-Canada Highway at mile marker 642, west of the Joyceville Road exit.
The collision involved seven vehicles, including four tractor-trailer units, a commercial truck believed to be an armoured transport and two passenger vehicles, one of which became fully engulfed with fire.
The occupants of the car died at the scene, OPP confirmed.
Two others, a tractor-trailer driver and the commercial truck driver, were seriously injured and taken to hospital in Kingston.
The westbound highway is expected to be closed for investigation for most of the day.
Detours are in place via highways 15 and 16.
