The Ottawa Police Service is advising commuters of possible traffic delays in the downtown core on Thursday afternoon as a March for Life demonstration by abortion opponents is scheduled for Parliament Hill around noon.

Several thousand protesters are expected for the demonstration, which includes a march beginning at about 1:30 p.m. through downtown streets before ending at about 5:30 p.m.

Police will be closing several downtown streets beginning at 1 pm., including Wellington Street between Elgin and Bank streets and Metcalfe Street between Wellington and Queen streets.

Police will also be doing rolling road closures along the planned route of the march, including sections of Elgin Street, Lisgar Avenue, Metcalfe Street, Laurier Avenue and Bank Street.

The march is expected to conclude with a return of the protesters to Parliament Hill at 3:00 pm.

After the march, commuters should continue to expect traffic delays on Wellington Street as protestors will remain on the Hill and an influx of buses, which will be taking the participants away from the Parliament Buildings, may impede traffic.

Police advise commuters to consider alternate routes.

Expect delays for all downtown routes this afternoon due to the National March for Life. Please plan ahead. #octranspo
