Mitch Owens Drive in North Gower has been closed after a collision between a dump truck and a car on Monday morning.
According to emergency responders, calls reporting the accident came in around 10:47 am. Callers said there were two vehicles on the roadway that were engulfed in flames.
Firefighters, police and paramedics attended the location of the crash to find a car and a dump truck on fire. They immediately closed the intersection of Mitch Owens Drive and Bowesville Road to deal with the accident.
A 59-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene according to paramedics. Another person who was in the car has been taken to Ottawa hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The driver of the dump truck has been treated on the scene.
Police wouldn’t say when the intersection may reopen to traffic. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
