Police helped the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry contain a black bear in the Hawkesbury area on Friday.
According to Hawkesbury OPP, officials “perceived that the animal was in poor health and a danger to public safety,” and a wildlife technician “dispatched the animal.”
The bear was seen roaming the local communities over the past few days, but it was recently getting closer to highly populated areas, police said.
There were sightings of the bear near Wendover and L’Orignal. Ministry officials set up a live trap in the area, police said.
