The refrain of ‘rain, rain, go away’ has turned into something unprintable in a family newspaper.

After besting a May 29 record for rain and winding down a month where we’ve already more than doubled typical precipitation, there’s a risk of thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday and a risk of showers every day through Friday.

Rolf Campbell, who crunches historic weather data from Environment Canada and tweets as @YOW_Weather, noted Monday that with 29.2 mm of rain by 8 p.m. it was Ottawa’s wettest May 29 since records began back in 1872. Meanwhile, with a few days left in the month, Ottawa has already had 171.2 mm of rain in May, more than double the average of 71.9 mm.

For Tuesday, expect clouds, a 60 per cent chance of showers – early in the morning, late in the afternoon and overnight – with a risk of thunderstorms and a high of 21 C.

Wednesday is cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of early morning and late afternoon showers, a risk of a thunderstorm and high of 19 C.

Thursday’s forecast is for clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers and high of 22.

More clouds are expected Friday with a 40 per cent chance of showers and high of 21 C.

The weekend forecast is for a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 19 C Saturday and 22 C Sunday.
