A 28-year-old Gatineau woman has been charged with criminal negligence causing death after her seven-month-old baby daughter was found dead in a Hull home Monday morning, Gatineau police say.
Emergency crews were called to the house at 14 Rue du Shamal by a 911 caller reporting an unresponsive baby at about 7:15 a.m. Monday.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics attended, but despite efforts to revive her, the baby was pronounced dead at the Hull hospital.
Police say they worked with the coroner’s office to try to establish the cause of the baby’s death. Suspicions about what had happened led to the arrest of one of the people at the child’s home.
Katrina Leigh Hazelett, the baby’s mother, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, said Sgt. Jean-Paul Le May of Gatineau police.
