The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is asking for the public’s help to identify a vehicle clocked at more than of 147 km/h on the Gatineau Parkway on Tuesday at around 8 p.m.
Police said the dark-coloured hatchback was travelling along a stretch of road where the speed limit is only 60 km/h.
It triggered onboard speed-reading instruments in a patrol car travelling in the opposite direction.
The officer attempted to intercept the vehicle, but ultimately ended the chase due to the risk to public safety in the area became too great.
Gatineau Park is frequented by several cyclists and recreational runners, the officer decided to call off the chase due to the possibility of a collision.
The vehicle appears to be an older model of a darker Toyota Matrix with aftermarket modifications. The vehicle also appears to be registered in Ontario.
Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP at 613-952-4200.
