In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.
Lois Frances Booth, granddaughter of famed Ottawa lumberman J.R. Booth, married Prince Erik of Denmark in 1924 in what one author called “the most celebrated society wedding ever to take place in Ottawa” to that point in its history. J.R., who shunned publicity, declined to attend the event.
