Three days after checking out of the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, Jonathan Pitre was back on Sunday after a test revealed that he has an infection.
Pitre, 17, underwent a stem cell transplant — his second — on April 13 in his battle to the repair of damage wrought by his blistering skin disease, epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
Pitre suffered a raft of complications that left him exhausted, jaundiced and confused. His kidneys, liver and gastrointestinal tract were affected. But in the two weeks leading up to last Thursday, his health showed a remarkable turnaround such that doctors deemed him stable enough to leave the hospital.
Pitre and Boileau moved back into their downtown Minneapolis apartment on Thursday morning, though he would have to return to the hospital most days for outpatient care.
On Sunday, however, his mother Tina Boileau tweeted: “We are back in the hospital. Jon tested positive for an infection.Your setback is the platform to your comeback. MIND OVER MATTER Jonny Boy!”
