Investigators are looking for witnesses to what they report are two incidents of mischief at a downtown church.

A 52-year-old Ottawa woman was charged Friday with breach of judicial release and disturbing religious worship.

Police say the woman went into the Kent Street church April 30 and began to scream and damage a religious statue. A similar incident happened January 30.

Police have not identified the church but say it’s in the 200 block of Kent Street. St. Patrick’s Basilica, the oldest English-speaking Catholic parish in Ottawa, is at 220 Kent St.

Katherine Spero is facing charges that also include mischief and causing a disturbance.

Spero appeared in court Saturday morning and will next appear June 22.

Witnesses are asked to call Cst. Kevin Bradley at (613) 236-1222 ext. 5450.
