Beat the heat this summer at City of Ottawa outdoor swimming pools, wading pools, splash pads and beaches.

Three of Ottawa’s outdoor beaches are set to open this weekend – Britannia, Westboro and Mooney’s Bay – but high water has delayed the preparation of Petrie Island beach. The Petrie site will be open to host Carivibe this weekend but a ‘No Swim’ advisory remains in place until beach repairs can be completed. Lifeguards will not be supervising swim areas at Petrie Island beach until it opens.

Beaches

  • Lifeguards will be on duty at Ottawa’s supervised beaches every day beginning Saturday, June 17 until Sunday, August 27, from noon to 7 p.m. Refer to ottawa.ca for beach locations, descriptions, amenities and recreational programs offered.
  • Ottawa Public Health monitors recreational water quality seven days a week at the City’s supervised beaches. Daily water quality results will be available at ottawapublichealth.ca, via Twitter at @ottawahealth or by calling 613-580-2424 ext. 13219.
  • If high levels of bacteria are found, a no-swim advisory is issued and tweeted (@ottawahealth). Site signage and flags at each beach will also indicate whether a no-swim advisory is in effect.
  • Occasionally a no swim advisory will be issued following a heavy rainfall. Surface run off from waste and other surface contaminants can potentially raise e coli levels in the water after high rain fall amounts.
  • Please be sure to follow water safety rules and practice sun safety.
  • Smoking and vaping are prohibited on all City properties including beaches.

Outdoor pools

Wading pools

  • Wading pools will open June 29 or July 4, depending on location. Each wading pool will also host a free special event during the summer. For site specific schedule information please visit ottawa.ca.

Splash pads

  • Splash pads are now open and will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through to September. Please contact 3-1-1 to report a splash pad that is not working.
