Ottawa paramedics are crediting the quick thinking of a City of Ottawa employee and nearby bystander for saving the life of a 60-year-old jogger who collapsed with an apparent heart attack Wednesday morning.
According to paramedics, the man was jogging along a path near the intersection of Holitman and Foxfield drives in Barrhaven at around 8:40 a.m. when he suddenly collapsed.
The city worker and bystander found the man and initiated cardio pulmonary resuscitation. They also phoned 911 for assistance.
Paramedics arrived a short while later to find the pair still performing CPR on the man.
The paramedics took over and used a portable defibrillator while also issuing a dose of epinephrine, which helped to bring the man’s heart beat back so he could be taken to hospital.
The man is in hospital in serious but stable condition.
Paramedics said without the intervention of the two people passing by the man would likely have died.
