Gatineau police have arrested and charged an Ottawa man with first-degree murder in the death of Christine MacNeil — the second man to be charged in the case.
Emilio Spezzano, 57, was charged and arrested with the help of Ottawa police around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
MacNeil, 25, was shot and killed in a guest room at The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Laurier Street on the evening of Oct. 19.
In February 2016, Blake Dooley, 53, of Ottawa was also charged with first-degree murder in the young woman’s death.
Gatineau police spokesman Jean-Paul Le May said Spezzano was in a close relationship with MacNeil for four years. MacNeil was also charged with assaulting Spezzano, and was scheduled to appear in court 10 days after she was killed.
MacNeil and Spezzano’s relationship ended shortly before her death.
Le May said investigators were able to amass enough evidence to bring Spezzano in.
Dooley was arrested by Gatineau police and the Ottawa Police Service’s tactical squad, after they raided three residences in Ottawa’s west end in 2016.
Spezzano will be with investigators Wednesday and will appear at the Gatineau courthouse Thursday.
More to come.
