The second man accused in the 2015 shooting death of Christine MacNeil appeared in a Gatineau court at noon Thursday, charged with first-degree murder.

Emilio Spezzano, 57, described as MacNeil’s on-and-off boyfriend, was arrested Wednesday.

Spezzano spent no more than two minutes in his first court appearance and didn’t say anything.

Lawyers and a judge agreed that he will make his next appearance in mid-July and will stay in custody.

Spezzano, a short but muscular man, wore a black T-shirt.

MacNeil, 25, was shot and killed in a guest room at The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Laurier Street in downtown Gatineau on the evening of Oct. 19, 2015 — the date of the last federal election.

One other man is already in custody in the case. Blake Dooley was charged with first-degree murder in early 2016. He was 53 at the time of his arrest.
