The rank-and-file Ottawa police union has severed ties with the police executive after what its president says have been months of double-standards and refusal to treat officers fairly, the Citizen has learned.
That fraught relationship was further fractured by recent serious criminal allegations against senior police officials.
“The ongoing relationship between the (union) and the (police) executive is unworkable,” Ottawa Police Association president Matt Skof wrote in a Friday letter to all union members, obtained by the Citizen.
“Earlier today I sent a letter to the chief making clear that the relationship was at an end.”
Skof wants more transparency and a fair approach to member treatment. Skof said the union will continue to administer its collective agreements but that union staff will “no longer participate in joint committees that are not mandatory and other ceremonial joint events.”
