If you are thinking of dodging traffic gridlock by driving in the bus lanes, prepare to pay a heavy fine.

Ottawa police Sgt. Mark Gatien confirmed $180 tickets have been issued to 44 drivers driving along Montreal Road’s bus lane since early Tuesday morning, and urges drivers to “watch your signage.”

The stops also resulted in fines issued driver’s having a suspended licence, one using a cellphone and another for driving with no licence.

Gatien also noted on Twitter that the force had even issued some advance warning of the crackdown.

We have been sent this picture of the Montreal Road Bus lanes stamped 0815hrs. Fair warning drivers, this will be enforced soon. $180.00 pic.twitter.com/XAm5Kltzlg
