June 23, 2017 – Petrie Island Beach will be open for swimming Saturday, June 24. Lifeguards will be on duty from noon to 7 p.m. until the season closes on Sunday, August 27.
Ottawa’s other outdoor beaches are also open – Britannia, Westboro and Mooney’s Bay. Refer to ottawa.ca for beach locations, descriptions, amenities and recreational programs offered.
Ottawa Public Health monitors recreational water quality seven days a week at the City’s supervised beaches. Daily water quality results will be available at ottawapublichealth.ca, via Twitter at @ottawahealth or by calling 613-580-2424 ext. 13219.
If high levels of bacteria are found, a no-swim advisory is issued and tweeted (@ottawahealth). Site signage and flags at each beach will also indicate whether a no-swim advisory is in effect.
