Capital beaches open, but rain on the way for busy weekend

Saturday dawned cool and sunny for one of the capital’s busiest weekends this year, with everything from a Teddy Bears picnic to a raucous electronic dance music festival at Lansdowne.

For the first time all of the city’s beaches were open, with lifeguards in attendance. Gatineau beaches are also open.

But don’t expect the nice weather to last, Environment Canada warns.

Heavy clouds are expected to roll Saturday morning, building into the afternoon, with a 60-per-cent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm in the outlook.

The high is expected to be a pleasant 24 C, with a humidex reading of 29 and an UV index of 5, or moderate.

Saturday night is expected cloudy with 60-per-cent chance of showers and continued risk of thunderstorms. The low is expected to be 13 C.

Sunday looks like more of this same but much chillier, with a high of only 19 C. Clouds are expected to build through the day with strong risk of showers and possible thunderstorms.

Sunday night sees a diminished chance of showers. and a low of 11.

Monday is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 20 C and few indications of showers. Monday’s low will be a chilly 9 C.
