This summer, the City of Ottawa’s Bucket Brigade is back on the streets with an even a bigger mission: helping keep the downtown districts clean and green for Ottawa 2017 and our country’s 150th birthday celebrations.

More importantly, every resident can take an active role to prevent litter, including cigarette butts, from landing on our streets and in our parks.

The Bucket Brigade is a crew of summer students who help clean up litter in the downtown area, bordered by Westboro to the west, Vanier to the east, the ByWard Market to the north, and Glebe to the south. This summer job gives Brigade members a strong sense of making a difference in their community and of working with their fellow residents.

“People are super thankful,” added Rebecca Bond, a Bucket Brigade crew member. “Multiple times a day, someone will stop and tell me that I’m doing a great job; they’re so thankful to have someone keeping our shared spaces clean.”

In addition to words of support, residents can also help the cause by putting litter where it belongs.

With this being Canada’s big year, Ottawa is centre stage for visitors from across Canada and the globe. The dedicated team of the Bucket Brigade will work together with conscientious residents like you to ensure Ottawa keeps its reputation as a clean, green and vibrant city.
