To mark the 150th birthday of Confederation, we asked local residents from a variety of backgrounds to share their wishes for the future of the capital and the country. Lynn Miles weighs in.
My hope for Canada is that we keep the lines of civil discussion and debate open, that we listen to each other, that we try to put ourselves in each other’s shoes and, if we disagree, we do it with civility, compassion and dignity. That we give refugees a safe place to land.
My wish for Ottawa, is that we understand and support the uniqueness and value of our neighbourhoods. Also that we support the arts by investing in artists and spaces where artists create and perform.
— Lynn Miles is a singer-songwriter who lived in Ottawa and Nashville before moving to Los Angeles in 1997. She has won a Juno Award and three Canadian Folk Music Awards.
