The Ottawa Senators are expected to buy on the free agent market when the clock strikes noon.
The Senators are close to signing unrestricted free agent centre Nate Thompson, who spent last season with the Anaheim Ducks. The two year deal is believed to be worth $1.65 million per-season.
The 32-year-old Thompson played for coach Guy Boucher in Tampa and will fill a spot on the fourth-line left vacant by the departure of veteran Chris Kelly.
The Senators are still trying to sign winger Viktor Stalberg before he becomes a UFA at noon.
