Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm watch for the capital, as well as many other municipalities.
The agency says the storms are expected from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The watch extends as far as Cornwall to the south and Pembroke to the north.
“The main threats are wind gusts to 90 kilometres per hour and heavy downpours of 50 millimetres or more per hour,” the agency says in a release.
The strong winds can cause building damage, down trees and “blow large vehicles off the road.”
Canada Day organizers have said the show will go on, except if there is lightning.
