The City of Ottawa wants to remind residents, motorists, and transit customers that major traffic impacts are expected this weekend as a result of special events. A full list of impacts, including road closures and detours, can be found on the traffic report on the City’s website.

Some of the special events and activities happening this weekend include:

  • La Machine – The Long Ma and Kumo creatures from La Machine will roam Ottawa roads this weekend resulting in numerous and significant traffic impacts and delays on OC Transpo and STO routes through downtown Ottawa. Daily maps and the full list of road closures can be found on the City’s website.
Anyone travelling through downtown Ottawa, for work or to attend La Machine and other special events, is advised to leave early and plan their routes ahead of time.
On Friday, July 28 between 8 and 9 p.m., additional transit delays are expected downtown as both La Machine characters make their way around the city. This will have impacts on transit movements through the downtown core for both OC Transpo and STO.
  • Somali Cultural Festival – The first Annual Somali Cultural Festival will take place on Saturday, July 29, from noon to 6 p.m. in Jean Pigott Place at City Hall. Parking is available onsite but may be limited.
  • Chamberfest – Heading into the second week of Chamberfest, anyone heading downtown for its concerts is reminded to take note of rolling closures resulting from the La Machine event. A full list of concerts and their locations can be found on the Chamberfest website.
  • Ottawa Asian Fest (OAF) – The Night Market Chinatown will take place on Friday, July 28 from 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, July 29 from noon to midnight, and on Sunday, July 30 from noon to 8 p.m. along Somerset Street, between Bronson Avenue and Arthur Street. Detours will be in place and will be signed.
  • Ottawa Fury - On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Ottawa Fury will play against the Toronto FC at TD Place Stadium, at Lansdowne. Ticket holders are encouraged to use transit, cycle or walk to get to the game. Tickets can be used to ride free on OC Transpo three hours before and up to three hours after the event.
  • As part of NOKIA Sunday Bike Days, the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, Colonel By Drive and Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway will be closed to motorists this Sunday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

If you are planning to use transit to get to and from these events, OC Transpo’s Travel Planner can help you find the best route to your destination.
