Pursuing police from five jurisdictions and a spike belt couldn’t put the brakes on a truck that was stolen in the Laurentians Thursday but wound up abandoned neared the Ottawa Hospital General Campus about 140 kilometres away.
The chase was on at about 10:30 a.m. when MRC Antoine-Labelle police officers were alerted to the theft of a black Ford 150 pickup truck, lettered with a business name, and empty boat trailer from Montée St-Louis in Notre-Dame-du-Laus.
MRC des Collines and Gatineau police were alerted to keep watch.
About an hour later, a pursuit began when the vehicle was spotted heading south on Route 309.
It was picked up by Outaouais-based highway patrol who laid out a spike belt to try to slow the vehicle down, but to no avail.
The SQ officers broke off the pursuit at about 11:45 a.m. when the vehicle left Quebec.
They advised Ottawa police to keep watch on their side of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge.
The empty truck was found on Smythe Road Thursday afternoon.
