O-Train Confederation line contractors have been charged with workplace safety violations related to the upkeep of their worksite in the winter.

In a memo from O-Train construction director Steve Cripps to Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and councillors about the under-construction light rail transit line, it was noted that contractors had violated the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Cripps’ memo said the violations were “generally related to the observed upkeep of the worksite in January 2017, and including concerns with the storage and disposal of equipment and materials.”

It also said city council had been previously advised that the Ministry of Labour would visit the site.

The Ottawa Light Rail Transit Constructors, which includes the various companies working on the project, said in the document that “they take such charges very seriously and intend to defend their position in this matter before the court.”
