Melinda Currey, bride to Senators captain Erik Karlsson, is a business consultant based in Ottawa.
She is listed as the chief marketing officer at Wellington Creative on her LinkedIn page.
After attending Hillcrest High School, Currey graduated from Carleton University with a degree in communications.
Among other philanthropic endeavours, Currey is “starting an anti-bullying charity called Can’t Dim My Light, which will emphasize cyber-bullying,” says a blog penned by Nicholle Anderson, the wife of Karlsson’s teammate, goalie Craig Anderson.
Karlsson and Currey got engaged in November 2016 when Karlsson proposed at the All Saints Anglican Church courtyard in Ottawa. A pizza was used as a prop.
“It seemed really cute,” Kyle Cruickshank, a local restaurant owner and witness of the proposal, told Postmedia at the time.
For their engagement photos, the pair headed to Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County to shoot James Bond-themed art.

Last February in a Sportsnet interview, Karlsson said the couple enjoys watching TV shows together.
“Heart of Dixie was pretty good,” he said. “We watch Parenthood, we watch Sons of Anarchy. I’m not a movie guy.”
Currey is quite active on social media, earning a following of more than 32,000 on Instagram alone.
She and Karlsson have both posted romantic pictures together of late, with the Sens star writing “Every kiss with you is special” under one recent shot of the pair smooching and, “I choose you over anything in this world now and forever” with another.
