Gatineau’s ambulances may not need flashing lights this week, after the paramedics’ union decided to redecorate them in garish colours and cartoon figures.
The union is protesting the slow pace of contract negotiations.
Paramedics are still on duty as usual, but they’re turning their vehicles into rolling protest signs.
About 30 ambulances are affected, with different designs on each.
Some have stripes, others splotches in a tie-dyed patterns. One has a Ghostbusters figure with word balloons protesting the labour situation; while another says “Pimp my job.”
Paramedics in the Outaouais are intensifying their contract negotiation pressure by changing the look of their emergency vehicles. Approximately thirty ambulances were painted with a multicolored color with paint, in order to put pressure on the employer to renew their collective agreement, which had expired in March 2015.
