One dead in six-car pile-up on Hwy. 401 near Quebec border

One person is dead and five were hurt after a crash on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near the Quebec border Monday.

The OPP said that six vehicles – two tractor trailers and four passenger vehicles – collided in South Glengarry Township at about 2:30 p.m. It happened near mile marker 828.

The person who was killed was not identified pending their family being notified. The injuries of the five other people weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

The westbound lanes of the highway were detoured onto Highway 2. It was after midnight when all lanes had reopened.

Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP are investigating with the help of a traffic collision investigators and a reconstructionist.
