The body of a Gatineau woman who died after her kayak capsized was pulled from a river in Mont-Tremblant National Park Sunday.

Carole Gagnon, 56, was paddling with a man on the waters of Rivière du Diable when the kayak flipped over around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The man was hurt but was able to get out of the water. Gagnon vanished.

Quebec provincial police and local firefighters searched for her and a helicopter was called into the area, which is about 180 km northeast of Ottawa. The search was called off when night fell.

It resumed Sunday morning with police divers. The Buckingham woman’s body was recovered late Sunday afternoon about 100 metres away from where the kayak capsized.

Foul play is not suspected, Sûreté du Québec spokesman Sgt. Mark Tessier said.
