Gateway Stands are the latest initiative to revitalize the ByWard Market

There is something new and unique in the ByWard Market today. Okay, there is always something new and unique in the ByWard Market, but the two new Gateway Stands, one on either side of the historic market building, facing George Street, are a new addition to the Market’s changing lansdscape.

These new vending spaces will operate year-round and serve as a welcoming gateway to the many vendors and merchants along William Street and ByWard Market Street. The premier locations showcase high quality, locally produced products for sale by Maple Country Sugar Bush and Maker House Company.

The design, construction and installation of the stands is sponsored by BeaverTails Ottawa Inc., the City’s newest Community Champion at the Leader level.

The new Gateway Stands complement the renewed George Street Plaza, which was completed in the spring.

Have you checked out the new Plaza yet? New features include:

• a granite programming space with seating
• a shade structure
• LED lighting
• a mist feature
• drinking fountain
• heritage clock
• shade trees
• a more pedestrian-friendly design

Both the Gateway Stands and the George Street Plaza renewal were created as special initiatives to recognize Canada’s 150th anniversary.
