On a long-weekend Saturday in September, when many were enjoying that last three-day cottage getaway of the summer, others were in the nation’s capital, supporting important causes or getting ready for the upcoming university school year.
The Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope took place at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park on Coventry Road, with participants choosing to stretch their legs over 2.5- or five-kilometre routes.
At Parliament Hill, they were on two wheels rather than two legs, as the Bikers Against Child Abuse rode in a rally.
And at Carleton University, new students began unpacking in preparation for life as post-secondary-school students.
Whatever the activity on Day 1 of the holiday weekend, they had great weather for it, with temperatures peaking at 20 C under sunny skies. It doesn’t look like those with Sunday plans will be so lucky, however, with rain in the forecast and a high of just 14.
