Thirteen people, including several teens, are displaced after a fire in a low-rise apartment building in Vanier early Wednesday.
One person suffered smoke inhalation.
The fire at 292 Lajoie St. was centred in a top floor unit and went to two alarms.
A fire investigator was on the scene determining how it started.
Fire crews were summoned just before 2 a.m. Wednesday by several 911 calls reporting visible smoke and flames.
As they arrived, the flames were obvious from the front of the two-storey multi-unit building and they immediately declared a working fire and entered the building to attack the flames.
A second alarm was called about 30 minutes later as smoke appeared on the building’s eaves where fire had spread to the roof.
Firefighters were still battling the flames at about 3 a.m. Road closures manned by police were lifted shortly before 7 a.m.
OC Transpo sent a bus to shelter the displaced residents, who were being helped by victim services section, which also sent in a canteen truck for fire crews.
