Fatal collision of three tractor-trailers closes Hwy. 401 near Cornwall

One trucker is dead after a fiery, three-rig pileup late Thursday night that has shut down Highway 401 west of Cornwall.

Police reported Friday morning that the eastbound lanes remain closed at Moulinette Road to Long Sault. When it would reopen wasn’t known.

Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP says that an eastbound tractor-trailer collided with another eastbound rig which then struck a third tractor-trailer.

The second truck became engulfed in flames and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The name won’t be released until family is notified.

The men driving the other two tractor-trailers were not hurt.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were shut down between Brookdale Avenue at Cornwall and Dickinson Drive at Ingleside with a detour as local OPP and the force’s traffic collision investigators examined the scene.
