OPP officers are investigating a crash on Highway 401 near Ingleside that killed a motorist when his vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided on Friday.

Both vehicles were travelling east near mile marker 769 at about 12:30 p.m.

The male driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not identified because his family had not been notified of his death. The trucker wasn’t hurt.

The eastbound lanes of the highway are closed between Brookdale Avenue at Cornwall and Upper Canada Road, with traffic detoured along County Road 2.

Motorists are warned to expect “long delays” due to work on a new roundabout at Long Sault and are urged to avoid the area if they can.

The crash widened a Highway 401 road closure that was already in place after another fatal crash, this one involving three tractor-trailers, late Thursday night. A fire that engulfed one of the units was so intense that a section of pavement had to be replaced.
