Construction has started on the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge across the Rideau Canal. This bridge will connect Clegg Street in Old Ottawa East to Fifth Avenue at Queen Elizabeth Drive in the Glebe and make it easier to go green with a safe and direct cycling and walking path across the canal. Its striking 123-metre arched span will be supported on ‘V’ columns on two new piers in the canal.
The multi-use Rideau Canal Crossing from Fifth Avenue to Clegg Street will connect communities, giving residents and visitors the freedom to explore the city, get active and save some time getting around. It’s considered a multi-use pathway because you can walk, jog or cycle across it, but it’s also multi-use because you will be able to use it to:
