James Walton, a City By-law enforcement officer, received the City of Ottawa Award for Heroism today for his quick actions earlier this year that helped save a child in distress.

The City of Ottawa Award for Heroism is presented to employees who take decisive actions to benefit others under extraordinary circumstances.

Mayor Jim Watson and City Manager Steve Kanellakos presented James with his award during Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

On January 16, 2017, James observed a woman in distress along Alta Vista Drive. Her child was suffering a seizure and was unresponsive.

James acted quickly. He took control of the situation, flagged down an Ottawa Police vehicle and, together with the police officer, they provided first aid to the unresponsive child until Ottawa paramedics arrived on-scene.

His actions undoubtedly affected the outcome of what could have been a truly tragic situation. Well done, James.
