Some on foot, others pedalling their bicycles, they made their way into the streets of Ottawa on Saturday, ending long journeys that had led them to the capital for Sunday’s national day of remembrance.
The Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Ride to Remember concluded after a four-day, 700-kilometre trip from Aylmer, Ont., while the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run to Remember reached the finish line following a three-day, 460-km trek from Toronto.
Both were leadups to the annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Service, which will be held at Parliament Hill on Sunday at 11 a.m. The 40th edition of the service will pay tribute to more than 860 fallen officers.
