Gatineau police handed a driver a $127 fine and a bit of a tongue-lashing Tuesday after finding a seven-month-old baby lying unsecured on the rear floorboards of a car pulled over in a distracted driving stop.
Police said the car was pulled over in Aylmer at about 7:45 a.m.
“The officers were very surprised to find the (baby) on the rear floor, even though there was a fixed baby seat” available, police said in a release.
Police ordered the baby be placed in the safety seat and the driver was ticketed for $127 and lost three points on his license for “driving a car containing a passenger under 16 years of age, shorter than 63 cm in height.”
The department strongly urges the proper use of carseats and noted that drivers can have their baby car seats inspected daily at the Gatineau police station at 777 Carriere Blvd. between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
