Ottawa leads international effort to create a new firefighting curriculum

A new international firefighting curriculum will be unveiled by Mayor Jim Watson, along with Councillor Diane Deans, Chair of the City’s Community and Protective Services Committee, Mona Fortier, Member of Parliament, Ottawa-Vanier on behalf of the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and Dr. Mark Williamson, Director General of Defence Research and Development Canada’s Centre for Security Science.

This multi-year project was led by Ottawa Fire Services and involved firefighting expertise from 13 countries. The result of this work is an evidence-based approach to fighting modern structural fires.

Place: Ottawa Fire Services Headquarters

Next week, Ottawa Fire Services will also host live-fire demonstrations of the curriculum principles at its fire dynamics training site. Members of the media who wish to participate in the training exercise must register ahead of time.
