Smiths Falls police have arrested and charged two people in connection with a gunpoint assault and robbery last week that caused two schools in the town to be locked down.
Police said they had arrested a 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man on Monday and charged them both with robbery using a firearm, assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
The two, whose names were not released, were held in jail while awaiting a bail hearing, police said Tuesday night.
The alleged assault took place Sept. 30 at noon in the Parkland Court area in Smiths Falls. Several schools in the area were briefly locked down during the unsuccessful search for the suspect that afternoon.
